IMG_7023YAD and Fambul Tik have on Tuesday, 5ht January 2016 officially opened the Matakan Community Primary School. The grand-breaking ceremony which took place at Matakan village in Niawa Chiefdom, Kenema District, was attended by countless dignitaries including the Senior District Officer, representatives of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mayor of Kenema city, Paramount Chief and all local authorities of Niawa chiefdom.

In his key note address, the Project Coordinator, Othman Sheriff revealed that the project included five standard classrooms, library, store, office, toilettes, furniture and water well, and that the main objective of the project is to make quality education available for the children of Matakan and surrounding villages within their own reach. He further thanked all stakeholders for supporting YAD and staff throughout the implementation.

Upon formally receiving the school and facilities on behalf of the Matakan community, the Paramount Chief, Madam Mariama Jaward Tamia III hailed the board of YAD and Fambul Tik for their supports to her chiefdom. She further awarded both organizations with “certificates of meritorious service” in recognition of their invaluable contributions to the post war recovery and poverty eradication efforts of the Niawa Chiefdom Community.

Responding on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the Supervisor of Schools, Mr Prince Gebeh acknowledged the project as one of the best educational infrastructures within the chiefdom and promised to support it to the best of his ability. He formally presented to the school cartoons of essential teaching and learning materials as sign of appreciation from the ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
